## **Fox and Hartbeat make microdrama a testing ground for film and television**

Fox Entertainment and Kevin Hart's Hartbeat announced a partnership at MIPCOM Cannes to develop 25 live-action microseries across thriller, drama and faith-based genres. The projects will debut on Holywater's My Drama platform, with Fox Entertainment Global handling international distribution and Fox Entertainment Studios receiving first-look rights to develop selected stories into longer-form films and television series.

The agreement connects vertical production, audience testing and traditional IP development within one commercial arrangement. Fox also holds an equity stake in Holywater, further linking the businesses involved.

The question is whether microdrama performance can reliably identify stories capable of supporting larger productions. For Fox, vertical entertainment is becoming a potential first stage of IP development rather than an entirely separate content category.

## **Disney expands its entertainment partnership with Dude Perfect**

Disney announced a company-wide partnership with creator-led entertainment company Dude Perfect, extending their collaboration across entertainment, sports, consumer products and Disney Experiences. Dude Perfect will develop content inspired by Disney franchises and events for its own channels, while Disney gains access to selected existing programming for Disney+, ESPN and its social platforms. Planned collaborations include *Star Wars*, Marvel and Super Bowl LXI. With more than 130 million followers across platforms, according to Disney, Dude Perfect brings an established audience and independent production operation.

The arrangement goes beyond conventional influencer marketing. Disney is using creator-owned distribution to extend its franchises, while Dude Perfect gains access to established IP and additional outlets for its content. It is another example of creator businesses becoming long-term entertainment partners.

## **Astra-Spark Alliance takes AI production beyond standalone tools**

India's Astra Studios and VerSe Innovation announced the Astra-Spark Alliance at MIPCOM, positioning the partnership as an AI-native production and co-production service for studios, streamers and brands. The proposed workflow combines multiple AI models, visual continuity management, multilingual production and integration with established post-production software.

The companies claim their approach could reduce production costs by as much as 75% and shorten certain schedules from months to weeks. Those figures have not been independently verified against completed production budgets.

The more significant development is the business model: AI companies are beginning to offer integrated production services rather than individual generation tools. For producers, the real measure will be whether those workflows deliver consistent, commercially usable content with predictable costs and creative control.

## **TikTok builds scripted entertainment around established creators**

TikTok and Made By Us Studios announced a partnership to co-produce creator-led vertical microseries for TikTok and PineDrama. The first projects include *Player*, a romantic revenge thriller starring Hannah Stocking, who also contributed to the story and serves as executive producer, and *The Knock*, starring Adam Rose and Zaria Simone. TikTok also reported nearly 580 million global views for *Screen Time*, its earlier collaboration with Issa Rae's Hoorae, since the series launched in April.

The new agreement combines established creator audiences with professional scripted production. More importantly, creators are participating in development and production rather than simply appearing on screen. Whether these projects become sustainable franchises will depend on IP ownership, financing and how effectively existing social audiences convert into serialized viewing.

## **ReelShort enters 17 markets through Orange's telecom network**

Orange Middle East & Africa and ReelShort announced a multi-year distribution partnership bringing microdrama programming to 17 markets through Orange's Max it TV service. The arrangement will bundle ReelShort viewing with mobile data packages, with the first four markets expected to launch before the end of 2026\. Orange serves more than 180 million mobile customers across the region, while Max it has approximately 39 million users. These are existing Orange audience figures, not ReelShort subscriber projections.

The partnership introduces a distribution model different from the app downloads, paid acquisition and in-app purchases that have driven much of microdrama's international growth. By integrating entertainment access with telecom billing, ReelShort may reach audiences through established mobile infrastructure. The revenue-sharing arrangements and actual customer conversion remain undisclosed.

## **Reese Witherspoon and Mediawan move to reacquire Hello Sunshine**

Reese Witherspoon and French production group Mediawan are reacquiring Hello Sunshine from Candle Media, according to Axios, in a transaction reportedly worth a low- to mid-eight-figure sum. Candle Media acquired a controlling stake in Hello Sunshine in 2021 at a valuation of approximately $900 million, during a period of substantial investment in independent production companies. The new transaction reflects a different market environment, although the reported purchase price and the 2021 company valuation are not directly comparable without the complete deal terms.

For Mediawan, Hello Sunshine offers established production capabilities, recognizable IP and a consumer-facing brand built around Reese's Book Club. The deal illustrates how the industry's approach to valuing independent studios has changed since the streaming boom, with renewed attention on sustainable businesses and ownership of durable entertainment assets.

## **Channel 4 commissions its first branded vertical drama**

Channel 4 announced *The Guest List*, a five-part vertical drama produced by curly media in partnership with beauty brand Sol de Janeiro. The series follows four young women in London, with characters inspired by products from Sol de Janeiro's fragrance range. Zenith UK brokered the collaboration. Rather than premiering on conventional television, *The Guest List* will launch October 24 across Channel 4's TikTok, Meta and YouTube channels. The project brings together broadcaster commissioning, brand-supported production and social-first distribution.

For Channel 4, it offers a way to develop scripted entertainment for audiences beyond traditional broadcasting. For Sol de Janeiro, it places brand integration inside an original narrative. The challenge will be whether branded storytelling can attract viewers on its own merits while delivering measurable commercial value.

## **Endemol Shine brings television IP to Brazil's creator-owned platforms**

Banijay's Endemol Shine Brasil and Grupo Podpah announced a partnership to adapt established television formats for the Brazilian creator-led media company's digital ecosystem. The initial agreement covers three international formats, including *Temptation Island*, with the first projects expected in 2027\. Grupo Podpah began as a podcast business before expanding into original programming and channels including Podpah TV and Madhouse TV. Banijay reports that its social community exceeds 32 million followers.

Unlike partnerships that bring digital creators into traditional television, this agreement takes established television IP to platforms already controlled by a creator-led company. For Banijay, the arrangement creates additional distribution and monetization opportunities. For Podpah, it provides access to established formats and professional production expertise while retaining its own audience relationships.

## **Mediacorp connects scripted microdrama with live commerce**

Singapore's Mediacorp announced *LOVE Angels (最爱 Angels)*, a 20-episode microdrama produced by Wawa Pictures and designed to integrate storytelling with product sales. The comedy features six brand partners, with products incorporated directly into the narrative. Characters occasionally break the fourth wall to address viewers about featured items.

Launching October 19, the series will appear across social platforms, mewatch and YouTube, supported by radio, television and live-commerce activities. The initiative extends branded entertainment beyond sponsorship and product placement toward a model that connects scripted content with shopping.

For producers and broadcasters, the potential lies in attracting brand financing while creating measurable commercial outcomes.

> Whether audiences respond to such direct integration remains an open question, but Mediacorp is testing a monetization model distinct from conventional subscriptions and episode purchases.

## **China Literature expands its commercial framework with Tencent**

China Literature announced amendments to its advertising and promotional cooperation agreements with Tencent, increasing the annual transaction ceilings under the arrangements.

The revised advertising commission limits rise to RMB 1.1 billion in 2026, RMB 1.9 billion in 2027 and RMB 2.2 billion in 2028\. These figures represent permitted transaction ceilings, not actual revenue or confirmed spending.

The broader cooperation reflects China Literature's expanding content business, which now includes literary IP, comics, live-action short dramas and animated adaptations.

With Tencent providing advertising, distribution and platform infrastructure, these formats can become part of a larger commercial ecosystem rather than relying exclusively on standalone entertainment services.

The agreement illustrates how short-form entertainment is being integrated into established Chinese IP and advertising businesses.
